Commonly Asked Questions
How does Reference Tree work?
We save you between 25% and 40% of the cost of your books through making them available through a rental model In addition we make almost all of the textbooks available by chapter. The chapters start at £1.58 and are a great way to get access to the reading you need without shelling out for a whole book.
We get you these savings through our online rental model, so you rent the chapters and etextbooks for either six months or twelve months. This means no more working out what to do with books at the end of term, and no lugging textbooks around campus.
How do I find a chapter or textbook?
You can find chapters by either
- searching for titles, authors or subjects using the search box,
- or you can browse through the categories.
When you see a book you like just click on it to see a list of chapters
Can I preview a chapter or book?
Yes you can, we offer a two page preview per chapter across the entire book so you can be sure that you are buying the right etextbook or chapter.
Where are the books and chapters I rent stored?
When you log in to Reference Tree, you see two tabs "All Books" and "My Library". The etextbooks and chapters you have rented are accessible via "My Library". Within the listings in "All Books" any book you have rented or rented chapters from will show "Read Chapters". By clicking on this button, you can read the chapters you have rented.
Can I print?
You can print up to a certain percentage of the etextbooks and/or chapters you have rented. The limit is set per book by the Publishers and varies between 20 and 50%. We calculate the limit based on the number of pages you have rented. So if the limit is 20% and you have rented a whole book which has 200 pages you can print 40 pages.
Can I copy text?
Yes you can copy up to 10% of the text, don't forget if you are using it within coursework to reference it properly.
What happens at the end of the rental period
We will warn you when the rental period is coming to an end and enable you to renew your rental for a further period. If the book you have rented is superseded then we will offer you the new edition of the book.
Do I need an internet connection to read the books and chapters?
Yes you do need an internet connection in order to read the books on Reference Tree. We are working on a reader which will enable you to read on your desktop and mobile phones/ tablets too.
