Web Accessibility Statement
-
1. Definitions
-
According to the World Wide Web Consortium, (W3C), web accessibility means that people with disabilities can use the Web. More specifically, Web accessibility means that people with disabilities can perceive, understand, navigate, and interact with the Web, and that they can contribute to the Web. Web accessibility also benefits others, including older people with changing abilities due to aging.

2. Reference Tree's Commitment
-
Reference Tree is committed to ensuring that its services are easily accessible to everyone, including those with sensory impairments who may have difficulty using the internet. Ultimately, Reference Tree aims to comply with, if not surpass the guidelines laid down by the W3C and the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI).
At present the website is designed to be as simple to use as possible. The large icons, bold contrast and clear layout ensure the site is user friendly.

3. Accessibility Roadmap
-
At Reference Tree we are aware that there are improvements that can be made to the website and we endeavour to achieve them in the near future, through working with experts to understand the needs of those with disabilities.
Initially, this website will aim to meet the first level of the accessibility rating system. It will be compatible with existing accessibility browser tools, including screen magnifier and text narrator and it will add the following features:
- Variable text size
- Adjustable contrast
- Keyboard navigation and other navigation tools
Eventually our goal is to have a fully accessible site. Following the initial changes we hope to improve our accessibility further. We will ensure that for any videos we include a text transcript and the website is compatible with speech recognition software.
We will also aim to make all our products readily available by working with our Publisher partners to optimise the accessibility of our e-books over the next year including implementation of new eBook standards such as ePub (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EPUB see also http://www.idpf.org).
