About Us
Our Aim – To help students save money by studying smarter
Textbooks are an integral and important part of your learning at University.
Textbooks are required reading on most, if not all courses, helping to navigate unfamiliar topics and subjects. They complement your lectures, seminars and journal articles.
However, textbooks can be expensive and alongside other outgoings from your budget, its easy to think “I will do without” or “Let me get a second hand book”. This is not a great situation, you’ve worked hard to get this far, you shouldn’t have to compromise your education using older textbooks.
With Reference Tree, you don’t need to make this compromise.
Reference Tree saves you money through enabling you to rent your textbooks by chapter, online.
How does it work?
The rental model means that we can give you a wider choice of books, at a lower cost than if we were just selling chapters or textbooks. You can save up to 40% of the cost of the textbooks through this model.
You choose whether you want chapters, groups of chapters or the whole book, each option is available for six months or twelve months.
Accessing your textbooks by chapter enables you to
- Save (even more) money
- Study what you want when you want to
- Widen your understanding of a topic through different view points
- Easily read up on material before taking a lecture or a new course
- Avoid looking sadly at the books you bought at the start of term but never touched!
Reference Tree is all online, no waiting for your books and chapters to arrive.
Who are we?
Reference Tree was started by Amil Tolia in January 2009, having looked back at his university days, wishing there was a service like this he approached other former and current students. Finding it appealed to students, he approached Publishers with the model. Following discussions with students and Publishers over the course of 2009, he found that there was appetite for this type of service on both sides of the market.
The core team of Reference Tree are
Amil Tolia (Founder and CEO)
Alistair Jackman (Lead Developer)
Martin Marlow (Strategic Support)
Aviva Weinstein (Publisher Relations)
Louise Weale (Publisher Relations)
Sara Killingworth (Marketing)
(Hint for you: Always hire people smarter than you – It works for Amil!)
